Personal literacy medical coding

Katmandu Personal althea Literacy What drew me to enroll into the medical coding program is the fact that I find the health care world to be fascinating. I started my career in the legal field and dealt with worker’s compensation and tort cases which involved getting the medical records of the clients and reviewing them to make sure we received the medical records that pertained to the accident or injury. When my legal career ended, due to the lawyer I worked for becoming the Mayor of Heavenlier, I found employment in the lath care field, and I have been in the health care field for six years.

I started out as a Care Team Coordinator, which is a position that deals with the scheduling for the clinicians, running reports to track paperwork, etc. After two years in that position, I was promoted to an Area Operations Specialist. In this position I traveled to branches throughout Massachusetts, Maine and Connecticut. I would run reports in order to review how the branches were doing on tracking their paperwork, reviewing their billing, meeting and discussing with the Branch Director and the Area Vice

President how the process flow in the specific branches were going, correcting any issues that were discussed and to train new employees. I really enjoyed the position as the Area Operations Specialist, but then I was downsized and my position was eliminated. I have not been able to find a position in the health care field that is as satisfying and challenging as the Area Operations Specialist. One of the Jobs that I had while I was an Area Operations Specialist was to tackle the non-clinical portion of the patient’s chart to make sure that we had everything we deed prior to billing out to Medicare or the insurance company.

While reviewing these charts, I became interested in the medical coding that I would read on the plan of care. Since I have not had any Job satisfaction since I was downsized, I felt it was time to take a step to get myself into a position that is more fulfilling than the one I have now. I have talked with people I work with about medical coding, and they suggested I look into it as they felt it would be a good fit for me. I like a Job that is challenging, makes me think, and work hard. Becoming a medical coder is a position

I feel that will be challenging because it will make me think, and it is also a Job which, I would say, consists of doing investigative work as you are looking into a book to find the most accurate code you need in order to tell the “story’ of the patient’s diagnosis and services rendered. After speaking with co-workers I read up on the courses that Northern Essex althea, I decided to enroll in the medical coding program. Once I complete my courses and my internship, I will have my certificate.

I will continue my education to learn about all the specialty coding in order to further my career goals. There will be more Jobs for medical coders as there are medical coders who have been using ACID-9 and do not want to learn the new ACID-II because the ACID-II coding is going to be more in depth and there are going to be thousands of new codes. After doing some research on medical coding, I found some very interesting information. Medical coding has been around in some form or another for over 500 years.

The London Bills of Mortality is said to have been developed during the sass’s during the bubonic when a standardized system was approved by the International Statistical Institute, it as called the Brillion Classification of Causes of Death. By the sass’s this standardized system was being used in 26 countries, and it became the international standard for collecting death statistics. Around 1948-1949, the World Health Organization (WHO) created the International Classification of Diseases, Injuries and Causes of Death (ACID) to enact a system for tracking mortality as well as the causes of diseases globally.

This manual is the foundation of the modern practice of medical coding. The ACID system is used worldwide except for in the United States the U. S. Will fully adopt the ACID-II system in 2013. The U. S. Has developed several types of classification systems, and they are Current Procedural Terminology (CAP) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HASPS) and International Classification of Diseases (ACID). Other medical professions have developed specific codes for their medical specialties which once your medical coding certificate is achieved your education can continue in order to further your career.

Aside from rendering a consistent universal system for the classification of the types of medical services, medical coding is also used to determine which health care services are embedded and how much is paid for the services rendered and to assure that the service providers are properly paid by the health insurance companies, government agencies and by patients for the health care services they were provided. A mistake in medical coding of a diagnosis or treatment could result in the denial of coverage or overpayment for services provided.

A medical coding professional provides a key step in the medical billing process. Each and every time a patient receives professional health care services in a physician’s office, hospital, outpatient facility, killed nursing facility, or rehab facility, the provider must document the services provided. The medical coder will extract the information from the medical records, assign the appropriate medical codes, and create a claim to be paid, either by an insurance company, the patient, Medicare or Medicaid.

A good deal of education and training is needed to become a skilled medical coder. A medical coder must have thorough knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology. A medical coder must become familiar with different types of insurance plans, regulations and compliance. They also need to be familiar with the coding community’s three critical resource books: CAP, HASPS Level II and ACID-9-CM along with their corresponding codes and guidelines.

The medical coder must, using the coding book in order to assign the correct codes, record the service levels for the procedures performed and to account for supplies used to treat the patient during an office visit or ERE visit with the physician. Also, the medical coder will assign the correct code to the record for the diagnoses of the patient after the patient has been discharged from the hospital and or services to begin from a visiting nurse association. The correct usage of ACID-II- CM codes should correspond with the diagnoses and complete the “story’ of the patient’s illness or injury.

A medical coder may also be involved in a variety of coding- related activities, like auditing of charts and re-fell appeals of denied claims from the insurance or government agencies. A medical coder may also instruct medical providers and insurance companies and make recommendations for the appropriate application of federal mandates and compliance that require providers to use also act as an advocate for the provider and patient in issues of coverage and medical necessity.
