Nowadays, people argue that having traditional values and customs are less important in raising a family in today’s society. Going back to a brief period of time, in the twentieth century, traditional customs involved having complex procedures which now, at the present day, people are unwilling to waste their time to get into those complex procedures due to the economic crisis, heavy work schedules, and new perspectives of their society.

What some people suggest is that most of the traditional values and customs should be abolished since modern life has been changing and will continue to develop at a fast rate changing its shift from complexity to simplicity. The Modern Family Society Whether you support a modern family or a traditional one, it is a common controversial issue that tends to divide people into two categories with opposing views. Traditional family supporters believe that this lifestyle is much better than the modern lifestyle because of the way that it promotes more values.

However, other people argue that the modern family is the best because men and women are considered equal partners. In a poll conducted with 10 people, 40% of the participants preferred to adopt a modern lifestyle when raising a family in today’s society. As the above results show, the modern lifestyle is not particularly as popular as the traditional one. However, some people still prefer to adopt it and to use it to raise their families in today’s society because of the way that it promotes individual freedom and challenges gender roles.

From all the good things that a modern lifestyle offers, the best one has got to be the individual freedom. This is the most valuable advantage that children who were born and raised in a modern lifestyle have. It is maintained that “There are more free things for the boys and girls such as letting them continue their education outside the country and live alone” [ (Zaeem, 2007) ]. Parents from this modern view have trained their off-springs to feel comfortable to stand for their own thoughts and to dare to speak up to reach on what they believe in or see that is wrong-doing.

In addition, there is no circumscription on clothing, food, shelter or friendships unlike the traditional lifestyle where the head of the household, or an elderly, chooses everything. For example, choosing to live with their relatives or choosing who the future husband for their daughters is, and the rest of the family members must listen and follow orders, whether they like it or not. Another great advantage of the modern lifestyle is how it challenges the gender roles in society. This lifestyle demands equal career opportunities for men and women, abolishing the need of a head of the family.

Now, “Men and women are usually both on the labor market; they contribute equally to the household. The working woman has created different conditions for the family as she now contributes to a better economy” (Giddens, 2011). Since men and women work together, they have a higher profit for their household and share ideas with each other since they have an equal decision- taking role. Women and children do not have the need to follow men’s orders if they think that are not correct, and when women come home from work, they are not needed to do house works alone since they have men to help together as teamwork.

Thus, making this an advantage to a positive change from the traditional lifestyle In conclusion, the modern lifestyle might not be particularly as popular as the traditional lifestyle but is still chosen by people who want a family that promotes individual freedom and challenges gender roles in society; abolishing the complexity traditional customs have and making a shift to simplicity for new perspectives of their society.
