Is Mankind Evil?

Opinion: Is Mankind Evil? Mankind is evil. The basic notation of this sentence is no one can be trusted completely, even though someone seems nice everyone has a streak of evil inside, even if they don’t want to admit it. I agree with this statement based on a couple of things. First, if mankind wasn’t evil why hasn’t crime stopped? Everyday there’s a new shooting and murder that gains national coverage, but not all stories get much if at all coverage. Last year in the United States there were 4. 7 homicides per 100,000 people.

A truly “nice” society would have had crime stopped or at least down sized ND less violent by now, and obviously ours has not. Second, if the world were so great why don’t we (mankind) not trust other humans? If the we as a society were a better place we wouldn’t be cautious, non trusting or even blatantly scared of other human beings based on their looks, clothes, or other features. In conclusion, I do agree with the fact that mankind as a whole is evil, and hopefully someday we will be able to overcome it. The views of human nature have changed throughout the centuries.

In the Middle Ages man was thought to have many flaws, and when the lack plague came it was considered to be a punishment for all of man’s evil doings or that is what many believed. This was during a time period with a very basic understanding of the world, and yet these peoples conscious told them that by taking the lives of others they could save themselves. The poor treatment of people during the Industrial revolution as well as during World War I showed that people would never change their selfish ways. It was the realities of the Industrial Revolution that started to etch away the fantasies that were born during the Enlightenment.

Historians mark the beginning of World War I the end official end of the Enlightenment because if is the time when all philosophers gave up hope in any good in humanity. How could anyone allow for such a catastrophe? Throughout the centuries wars have been fought for many reasons -religion, land, and pride- but were any of these really worth the death of hundreds sometimes millions of lives? Why would anyone want to hurt another person? Why can we not accept that we Just have different beliefs? Or why can we not Just accept that we live in this or that country? How can anyone live themselves after something like that?

Why does it ever have to come down to an extreme such as warfare? “Today our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature. Our country has been deeply wounded. ” (George W. Bush) On September 1 1, 2001 one of the most tragic events in US history. The sad thing is to some people this was a good day. Some viewed it as a good thing. They were taught to by their society. On September 1 1, 2001, terrorists flew four airplanes in mid-flight. The terrorists flew two of the planes into two skyscrapers at the World Trade Center in New York City. The impact caused the buildings to catch fire and collapse.

Another plane destroyed part of the Pentagon (the U. S. Military headquarters) in Arlington, Virginia. The fourth plane crashed in Janesville, Pennsylvania. Officials believe that the terrorists on that plane intended to destroy either the White House or the U. S. Capitol. Passengers on the plane fought the were killed in the 9/1 1 attacks. AY-Qaeda leader Amman al-Charier released an audio recording hailing the “blessed” September 11 terror attacks as “the greatest blow’ America had ever suffered. Its sick to think some people praised the terrorists who made these attacks. Only a truly evil society can have these things done.
