Methods and Materials The materials we used for this lab were 4 Petri dishes, 4 sterile cotton swabs, water, and hand sanitized. Everyone in the group got a Petri dish and a sterile cotton swab. We took the cotton swab and picked a place in the school to test for bacteria and these four places were fire alarm, door handle, door knob, and stair case railing. Once we got the swab of the chosen places, we spread it on the Petri dish and labeled and then let the Petri dish sit out for a week.

We then came back to see how much the bacteria had grown. We counted how many colonies in ACH Petri dish and described what each of them looked like from the term to evaluation to margin and the colors of the colonies and if the Petri dishes had fungi. Results did the experiment on the fire alarm and her results are as follows; she found 100 colonies, along with 60 fungi. There were 20 punctuation followed by 10 irregular and 30 filamentous. The margin was entire and the color was red. Stephanie did the experiment on the hallways door handle. The results were that she found 12 nuns and 381 colonies. He found 20 colonies and his color came out to be yellow. Jennifer experimented the stair case railing and her results were that she found 24 colonies and 5 fungi. The forms were circular and filamentous. There were two elevations and they were flat and convex. The margins were entire and filamentous and her color came out to be green and yellow. Conclusion In our hypothesis we stated that the door knob would have the most bacteria than the rest of the other experiments but in the results, the hallways door handle had the most bacteria.

The door knob had 20 colonies and no fungi while the hallways door handle had 381 colonies and 12 fungi. These results were unexpected because you would think a classroom’s door knob that gets touched everyday by a dent and teacher would have the results of the hallways door handle that also gets touched by the same people but you have to get through the hallway to get to the classroom which means the hallways door handle is being touched more than the door knob.
